Second-hand car buyers are trying to gazump rival motorists as demand for used vehicles grows to unprecedented levels.

Research shows that the price of second-hand cars has increased by 11.1 per cent in the past year to reach a record high of £14,276.

The study by the car sales website Auto Trader said prices had increased each month since the start of the pandemic when the first lockdown strangled the supply of new cars, putting additional pressure on the market.
