Entrepreneurs with new ideas for more productive and sustainable farming will be helped to join the industry under the changes to agricultural policy being introduced in England, the environment secretary has said.

Addressing farmers at an online event organised by the Oxford Farming Conference, George Eustice said that existing farmers ready to retire or wanting to leave the industry would be helped to do so “with dignity” by being offered lump-sum payments, releasing land for new entrants.

“New people coming in, perhaps having had experience in a different industry, can bring a great perspective to the industry,” he said.
